Overview
An update of Namco’s Family Tennis, World Court Tennis adds a Dragon Quest-style RPG “Quest Mode” to its predecessor’s simple, cutesy tennis gameplay. In the quest mode, the player is tasked with defeating the evil tennis king. This will require leveling up the player’s racket, shirt, and shoes, as well as collecting pearls to trade for a “magical ball” which can neutralize the evil king’s tennis powers.

You say...
The quirk of a fantasy RPG/sports crossover is the only thing that makes this game at all worth playing today, and this Quest Mode is shallow and feels unfinished. For instance, even after beating the game I never successfully used the menu’s “Search” function and never knew what to make of the “Poop” item in my inventory. The tennis gameplay is too simple to stand on its own for long the RPG is only a fun idea that’s very thinly executed. Funnily, in the ending dialogue the now-restored good guy tennis king congratulates you on saving the world and suggests that you may also enjoy Final Lap Twin, a Namco racing game which employed the same RPG Quest Mode gimmick.
