Overview
Being the major hit that it was, it's no surprise that Populous was a rich prospect for expansion. What Populous - The Promised Lands brings to the table is a whole new set of landscapes as well as the original game included for good measure. In total, there are 8 new lands to discover, ranging from Bomber World (with Bomber Man related houses and characters) to Block Land (Lego), the French Revolution and Wireframe (where everything is made from pseudo-vector graphics). Gameplay remains the same as the original however.

Comment
In terms of new stuff, Promised Lands is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the new landscapes are great (the little PC Engine houses are adorable), whereas ones like Silly Land seem to be a wasted opportunity. But that's no big deal because Populous is Populous, and that means it's an engaging and fun experience. Because this is on CD it gives the added opportunity of redbook music, although I have to admit that this is one of the few times in a game that I prefer to turn it off - it gets repetitive fast. It's a bit of a shame that you can't play through with all the worlds from both games included but that's a minor niggle and shouldn't prevent you from getting onboard with this gaming classic.
