Overview
An overhead multi-directional action shooter, you control a craft that has to destroy all the enemies in various locations to progress. Your ship fires in any of the eight directions that you face, and you can also lock the direction of fire for more accuracy. Scattered around are various power-up pods that allow you to chose another ship from the pause menu, each having differing offensive or defensive abilities.

Comment
There's a few things I like about Metal Stoker. The overhead graphics are well drawn and nicely coloured, and they remind me of an upgrade to some of the old 8-bit games I used to play. The sound is nice - decent if forgettable music with a few voice samples that add some atmosphere to the game. The game itself is generally pretty good; the aiming lock system is a bit of a hassle to get used to, but eventually you'll master it. I just find it hard to get really excited about the gameplay - it has all the elements of an exciting game but it somehow fails to hook me. Despite that, it's certainly worth giving it a try.
