Overview
Future sports games have always been a mixed bag. From a brief glance, it would seem that you are in for a decent Speedball clone, but Ballistix is very different. The main aim of the game is simply to get the ball into the opponent's goal at the top of the screen, while protecting yours. However, there is a twist. On each pitch there are certain areas that contain a sort of magnetic influence, so that the ball does not always travel in a predictable manner. On top of this, you don't just run into the ball to move it, you have to fire shot after shot of your own smaller spheres to cause rebounds. Needless to say, it can get a bit frantic. Popping up from time to time are the obligatory bonuses and specials, like an orange multiball explosion causing even more confusion than before.

When you're tired of the multi-player game (2 players or 1 player vs CPU), the single player mode offers more relaxed play. Here, you are presented with a seemingly endless series of arenas and you just have to get the ball in the top goal with only the floor-based magnetic effects to disrupt things.

Comment
So what's it like? Rubbish. The multi player game is little more than random button bashing with little or no skill involved and the single player levels seem really pointless - there's precious little challenge and you just get bored really fast. On top of that, the graphics are dull and the music is inconsequential so the only real use for this HuCARD is to wedge it under a table with a dodgy leg.
